Restoration Engineering, LLC

Restoration Engineering, LLC is an engineering and environmental consulting firm specializing in aquatic restoration, environmental hydraulics, and hydrology.  Fluvial process and stream, floodplain, riparian, and wetland restoration are core competencies of RE, LLC. Our projects routinely involve assessment, restoration, and relocation of small spring creeks to major river drainages in both urban and rural settings.  While we are experienced with a variety of channel restoration design approaches, we commonly utilize a process based design methodology, which emphasizes sustainable, naturally functioning stream channels and floodplains with diverse aquatic and terrestrial habitats. We focus on the use of contextually appropriate, biodegradable materials whenever possible, maximizing the use of naturally occurring, locally available resources including vegetation, woody debris, soils and sediments.

RE, LLC also offers a comprehensive array of water resource services that meet the needs of clients facing the most complex environmental challenges and regulatory requirements.  These services include: fish passage assessment and design, 1-D and 2-D hydraulic modeling, hydrologic gage station installation and operation, wetland / stream mitigation, small dam removal and restoration, geomorphic studies, fish and wildlife habitat assessments and population surveys, water quantity studies, groundwater studies, and small hydropower resource evaluations. In addition to providing the technical aspects of project work, RE, LLC routinely assists clients with all aspects of water resource / environmental permitting and compliance including: agency and stakeholder coordination, permit acquisition, inspection and compliance during project implementation, development and implementation of monitoring plans, and project record keeping required for permit compliance.

We are headquartered in Livingston, Montana, but we work throughout the Rocky Mountains, Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Our principals, who include two registered professional engineers and a fisheries biologist / hydrologist, have a 20-year history of collaboration. With our in-house expertise, we can address a wide array of water resource issues, but we also maintain a network of professional associates whom we can draw upon to satisfy requirements of the largest and most complex projects.
